England – RSPB Dungeness [1]

Sutton, 28 Jun 2009

The final dedicated birding day today was a drive to RSPB Dungeness near Lydd in Kent. Dungeness lies in an area of old coastal gravel bars between which lie many natural ponds and pools. Commercial gravel extraction over the years has also created several large artificial ponds. The reserve, like Minsmere in Suffolk that I visited a week ago, sits in the shadow of a nuclear power station. Here it is the Dungeness nuclear power station.

Birds seen included Common Reed Bunting, Common Whitethroat, Common Ringed Plover, Common Blackbird, Western Marsh Harrier, Long-tailed Tit, European Green Woodpecker, Red-legged Partridge and Little Grebe.
